Many dogs are very tolerant, or socialized to the point where they will put up with a lot, especially from one of their “hooman” children. To become Canine Good Citizen certified, a service dog must first learn to accept all sorts of behavior from people and other dogs, behavior that some lesser socialized dogs would simply not tolerate. However, since not all dogs are as docile as the family pet (or a Blessing’s Unleashed Service Dog, perhaps) it is an excellent idea to teach your child how (and how NOT) to interact with a dog.
